We were tasked to design the integrated branding (logo/identity, website, entry kit, book of winners, poster, more) for the 2013 Hawaii’s 5-O, AIGA Honolulu’s biennial award show that celebrates graphic design excellence. In its 10th year, the competition had evolved from a print show to a well-rounded design show and was not without some growing pains. In 2013 we hoped to inspire more participation, while also somehow tying our design industry to the Battleship Missouri that would be the spectacular venue for the Awards show finalé.
Connecting our humble regional graphic design competition to an epic WWII memorial was no light task. Our solution takes inspiration from the iconic posters from the patriotic era, calling designers and developers to report for competition in an effort to restore honor to our embattled industry.
